UN Phone Booth Revitalization
Project Management | Interior Design | CarpentryAs a part of a collaboration between the UN DPPA Innovation Cell and the Rhode Island School of Design, we were tasked with redesigning the interiors of four Phone Booths that have been in the UN Secretariat Building since the 1950s. The brief was open-ended and only required that the exteriors remain the same and that each booth has some interactive component.
I project-led a team of four Industrial Design MFA students and was in charge of all communications with the Innovation Cell. Each booth’s design embodies a different step in the creative process:
We tried to introduce as many natural and locally sourced materials as possible while reusing many of the materials that were removed from the original interiors to pay homage to their history and preserve their original essence.
